39. Replacement of Shoji Paper

The previous story is here!

April 29, 2022.

My today's task is to replace *shoji paper.
*Shoji are Japanese sliding doors consisting of wooden frames and thin Japanese paper.

As mentioned above, the shoji paper in our bedroom is very thin and there is a street light right next to the room, so it is quite bright even at night. 🤣

As expected, we didn't want a room that would wake up a sleeping baby, so we decided to buy and replace the shoji paper, which boasts a light shading rate of 99.9%! 😎

I've seen my dad replace shoji paper it at home when I was a kid, but this is the first time for me to do it. 😜👍

After cleaning up our rooms in the morning, we started work on the shoji paper replacement after noon!

First, I detached four shojis from just before windows in our room.

Then I traced the shoji paper with a towel with a little more water on it where it had been glued to the shoji.

Let it sit for 5 minutes, then slowly peel it off, and voila!!

I was able to remove shoji paper cleanly. LOL!

Next, I cut the shoji paper to the size that fits the shoji of our room.

However, I do not have any special equipment at home, so I use an analog strategy of cutting shoji paper with a pencil, marking the paper with a pencil, and then cutting it with a cutter knife. 😝

This light-shielding shoji paper, made of polyester film with Japanese paper laminated on both sides, is harder to cut than expected. 🙃

What's more, it is 26 times stronger than ordinary shoji paper. 😇

So, not to be outdone, I exerted 26 times my usual strength to cut all the shoji paper. 😜

After that, just use glue to stick the shoji paper to the shoji and I am done.

Stick it, stick it…

Stick it, stick it, stick it…

Stick it, stick it, stick it, stick it…

I did it!!!!!!!

After 8:00 p.m., I finally finished replacing the shoji paper. 😂

When I put the four shoji screens in position by the window and close them with a snap, well, I can't see anything, it's completely dark. 😲

After creating a safe sleeping space for my baby, I fell asleep in that pitch-dark room at around 10:00 p.m. 😴
