It's my Life

Episode12. Get into the University

The previous story is here!

"Four years from now, I'll be a professional baseball player belongs to *Hanshin Tigers."
*Hanshin Tigers is one of Japan's professional baseball teams.

Embracing such a dream, I celebrated my first day as a university student at a 20,000-yen, *6-tatami mat size room behind the university.
*In Japan, the size of a room is expressed by the number of tatami mats that can be laid in the room. 1 tatami mat is about 1.8 square meters.

When I entered university, there were many players in the same team and league who would go on to become pros.

Looking at those players, I was also enthusiastic, saying, "I will definitely play an active part."

Because of the one-year physical training I did after graduating from high school until I entered the university, aside from my baseball skills, even though I thought it might be difficult for me to keep up with practice, I was able to gain confidence that I could do well.

After entering university, I practiced every day.

Looking back, there wasn't a day that I didn't practice.

I was soooo desperate to keep up with practice, more technically than physically.

I had a blank year gap before entering university, so I entered university at the age of 19, in other words, the year I turned 20.

In Japan, most people who go to university become 1st-year university students in the year they turn 19.

Therefore, at university, in terms of age alone, people who are one year younger than me become my classmates (same 1st-year students as me), and people who are the same age as me become one-year seniors (2nd-year students).

I thought it would be difficult to get along with my teammates in the baseball club if my age was found out, so I decided to keep quiet about the fact that I was one year older.

However, team manager quickly revealed that "this guy has a blank year", so my age was soon found out. haha

Although my teammates in the baseball club knew my age, they didn't care about my age and they were very friendly, so I was really happy.

Sometimes we talk about TV and music that were popular in the past, but the songs that were popular when I was in the 1st year of high school were popular songs for my teammates in the 3rd year of middle school, so there was often a time lag. hahaha

2nd-year teammates who knew that I was the same age said to me, "If you're the same age, don't use honorifics for us.", so, at first, I communicated with 1st-year and some 2nd-year teammates without using honorifics.

Thanks to the blank year, I have doubled my friends. hahaha

Just then, the 3rd year teammates warned me to use honorifics, so I started using honorifics for the 2nd year teammates. haha

to be continued...
